Molstead Library's interlibrary loan department staff provides interlibrary loan services to all NIC students and staff, and NIC Board of Trustees. Interlibrary loan staff will attempt to borrow materials requested by the above patron groups from any OCLC member library in the United States or abroad with the following exceptions:
- Audio-visual materials (exceptions are made for NIC faculty only)
- Material that the library already owns
- Reference materials
- Special collections materials
- Copies of articles available in one of the library's online subscription full-text periodical indexes or copies of articles located in serials to which the library subscribes.
Molstead Library, with rare exception, provides no interlibrary loan services to community borrowers. The library will provide this service to NIC alumni and Foundation members, all Board of Trustees members, and employees of governmental agencies who have unsuccessfully attempted to use their local public library's interlibrary loan services. Local residents and area public and private school students are encouraged to avail themselves of their local public or school libraries' ILL services. (Questions regarding this policy should be addressed to the Circulation Supervisor.)
A patron may be referred to a local public library if that library holds the requested item(s). This may be more acceptable to a patron than waiting for the item to arrive via ILL.
Interlibrary loan limits are placed on NIC students (20 per semester). These limitations may be exceeded if warranted. (See the Interlibrary Loan Technician or Circulation Supervisor for exceptions.)
No charges or fees are assessed NIC students. NIC will pay up to $10 for materials for NIC staff.
All interlibrary loans are subject to the same restrictions placed on in-house materials such as due dates, overdue fees, replacement costs if lost or damaged, and renewal deadlines and restrictions.
Molstead Library adheres to interlibrary loan policies and guidelines as set forth in the American Library Association's Interlibrary, Loan Practices Handbook, 2nd ed., 1997.
To better comply with federal copyright law, Molstead Library is a member of Copyright Clearance Center, Inc.
